For Comment, Spring Equinox

Sevier Park and 12 South on March 19th

Energy

My focus here is on artistic energy - the way an arrangement of flowers, for example, can jump with life, or the way an artist can take inspiration from a vibrant scene, or the way music on a lazy Sunday afternoon can get a person hopping.

Also, for myself - shooting with black & white film gives me a different spirit - as do accidental double-exposures, hahahaha

Morning's worth of C-41 developing production: Mixture of C-41 film stocks shot with two Medium format cameras (6x6 & 6x7), a manual 35mm SLR, an AF SLR, and a AF rangefinder camera since January 2, 2024.

Sort of a random collection of a few recent images.

Sharon and I took the long way home after the last meeting and ended up in Montgomery Bell Park.

Energy - Big Bang

I've been told, rather humorously, that I'm a "looker-upper". So, I do an initial google search on the assignments to get a definition of the word or concept to help broaden thoughts of what the image to represent that might be. I found the sentences below and loved the full circle and eternal ideas presented.

Energy - Scientists believe that energy began with the Big Bang

- the law of conservation of energy says that energy is neither created nor destroyed. When people use energy, it doesn't disappear. Energy changes from one form of energy into another form of energy.

- the energy we encounter and use everyday has always been with us since the beginning of the universe and always will be with us. It just changes form all around us.

The base image is a reworked older image of an armillary sphere: they are an early astronomical device for representing the great circles of the heavens, an early representation of the result of the big bang and a metaphor for the understanding our place in the universe.

Happy Vernal Equinox!

Legend has it that on the spring equinox, you can balance an egg in an upright position thanks to the Earth’s position relative to the sun.

Lenses and Film used to shoot Oppenheimer

I got interested in the filming of Oppenheimer when I read somewhere that a modified Helios lens was used. I have 2 Zenit Helios lenes that I bought for their swirly bokeh. I don't know where I saw that and subquently I could not varify the claim. What is stated by several sources is that 50 and 80 mm Panovision lenses were used plus a snorkle lens. My Helios lenses are 58 and 85mm. Panovision lens are anamorphic lenses. Anyway during my journey to clarify what was used for filming the movie I discovered that there in a modified version of the Helios 44-2 that is converted to a anamorhic design. So I had to have one and it was cheap! Several sources varified the claim that Kodak made a special version of Kodak Double X film for Oppenheimer. I need some of that also??

While I really enjoy compositing using my own images, it's even better when I am given a challenge by one of the family to use it to improve an image that is important to them.  Owen sent me this.  He was celebrating Grace's 21st birthday and couldn't get a pic that showed the balloons in the right order.  He also mentioned that she was embarrassed by the boot she has to wear and could I do something with that too.  Fun stuff.
