Grandson AJ and I took a lengthy hike in the woods behind our house Monday afternoon. He wanted to show me this tree and he stood amazed by this mammoth, ancient oak.

For Comment: Weekend in the Smokies

Every year, we try to visit the GSMNP at least three times. Despite the season, the weather, etc., it's always a fun, brief getaway. Exploring, hiking, or photoshoots inside the park boundaries is soothing to the soul. But, visiting areas outside the park is crowded, cluttered and chaotic...but can be photographically interesting none-the-less. Here are a few images from last weekend:
