This just struck me as worth sharing. Came across it last week while out doing errands, and was glad I pretty much always have my camera with me. I'll be curious if any of you have a great title/caption for this one,
Plus, I was of two minds about lifting the shadows of the candelabra clutter much more than I did. I like the suggestion of the fixtures, didn't want to detract from Resting Jesus - Curious about your thoughts on this as well.
Emily, I can only speak about what I would do and not what you should do but there are a few things on the table that have no shadow detail on my monitor. Consequently, I would mask and do a local curves adjustment layer on each of those objects just enough to give some detail. The candles my not need an adjustment but I would definitely increase the visible detail in the actual candelabra enough to give some more shadow detail. I am not against having blocked shows in certain situations but I tend toward trying to avoid having them in this type of subject matter. I see the story of the image in its total content, including, but not the just the rising Jesus.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I LOVE it. Such a beautiful stained glass still life, with the quirk of the resting Jesus turned sideways, just brilliant. Kind of makes a statement to me of how some aspects of religion are "sideways" these days. You had some things going against you from a light and composition perspective, and I was inspired to play with it. It looks like i have to make a separate post to include the image. Just FYI - Emily approved of me posting my version of her image.
