For Comment

I took 3 cameras to Fort Negley last week, 2 film cameras and my digital Fujifilm.  The film is still being developed.  They should have shots similar to these but in black and white.

Personal Project

Somehow I want to get at the essence of sisterhood.  Or maybe at the essence of women's friendships.  Here's a start, taken Christmas Eve.

Personal Project

This image is an archive image, but it is a personal project I've wanted to work on for some time.

The image is called Endangered. I would like to focus on loss of wild habitat and its impact.
The concept is to have a composite image of a wild creature in a 'concrete' environment. I've taken many wildlife pictures and concrete structures over the years and would like to create a body of work around this concept.

My favorite native plant is the common milkweed. There are several reasons. First of all, it's the host plant for the Monarch caterpillar and butterfly and vital to sustaining that species. The caterpillar feeds on the milkweed plant and ingests the toxins, which in turn makes the Monarch unpalatable and poisonous to its predators.

Secondly, I enjoy walking in a meadow in the Fall when the milkweed pods dry out and pop open releasing hundreds of seeds, each with its own little parachute to ride the wind to a location to start a new plant.

There are many interesting facets worth knowing about the legend and lore of the milkweed plant. I encourage you to search those out.

Here are a few Fall images from my file of milkweed plants.

 Photo Project Challenge: "Double Take..."

I think photography should always be fun! One project I've wanted to do is this: From time to time, wherever I may be, I happen upon situations which are strange, weird, alarming, unusual, goofy...in general scenes I don't expect to see, which cause me to do a "double take".

A day or two before "the snow", I drove by the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, which is being demolished. I did a double take when I saw a colorful children's playground apparatus sitting in the middle of a brick building which had been torn down. I have no explanation, it just appeared!

So here is that image.

I'm going to make a concerted effort to "find" more photo opps of this type. In the meantime, I remembered several archived photos that fit into this "Double Take" category:
